GP2 - Season 2007

Glock made a poor getaway from pole whereas his now biggest rival Di Grassi made a great start and took the lead.

But as the race went on Glock quickly closed the gap and when Di Grassi pitted, Glock did three quick laps before his own stop. The result was that Glock just beat Di Grassi out of the pits, but it was very close. Once Glock had found heat in the tires he gradually increased the gap which he would hold until the checked flag.

In third place was once again Kazuki Nakajima, who got a podium for the third time in three races. He looks more and more like a driver for the future and is easily the best Japanese driver since Takuma Sato. His string of good results has also helped the DAMS team up into 6th place, just 2 points behind Arden.

Gorgio Pantano made a great start from third sport and was alongside Glock into the first corner, but it was clear that Glock was not going to give that place away easily. Pantano settled for third, but lost that position to Nikajima during the pit-stops. In the final laps Pantano was driving so slow, due to what looked like destroyed tires and was almost beat at the flag by Kohei Hirate. The 5 points scored was good enough for Pantano to move him up into 4th place in the championship.

The two Trident drivers, Hirate and Maldonado had several great battles during the race and switched places two times. In the end it was Hirate who had the best tires and he scored his first points of the season with a fine 5th place, just in front of his team-mate. To the delight of the Trident Racing team, it was their first race of the season where both drivers ended up in the points.

In 7th place was Adrian Zaugg who took 2 points for Arden, whereas Javier Villa took the final point in 8th position - and along with that, tomorrow's pole position.

Mike Conway stalled his engine at the start and had to be pulled back to the pits. He did rejoin the race, albeit 1 lap down, and salvaged the point for fastest lap.

All in all, it has been a very good weekend for Timo Glock so far. He has taken maximum points with pole and the win, and one of his nearest rivals Luca Filippi didn't score a single point. It now looks more and more like a battle between Glock and Di Grassi.

In the Team's Championship, iSport increased the gap and is now 20 points in front of defending champions ART Grand Prix.
